Window Treatments = DIY Brinks

First let me say, we are actually going to get a real security system when we're officially moved in. And most likely a terrifying animal of some sort. We're cheap as hell, but not silly enough to compromise safety.

But for now, since all of our appliances are in open view of various windows and patio doors, we need to get them covered. We only spend a few hours a day at the house, and during the times we are not there, are poor appliances are subject to the following:

We decided to buy curtains for both patio doors (in the sitting room and living room). We found these white grommet curtains by Woolrich for Target. They came in sets of 2 for $29.99, which is the cheapest we could find of this type.

We hung these over a few days. At first, we couldn't find a drill. Then we found two drills, but had no drill bits. So Mike's dad came over and did this for us.We're lucky he's so handy.

The door to the backyard.

We finally stopped being lazy and went to Home Depot and bought our own drill bits. Then attempted to hang our own curtains in the sitting room last night.

Cute... and handy.

This was the result. A before and after picture isn't really necessary here... but they're always nice.

After that, we were feeling pretty good about ourselves and our curtain-hanging skills this afternoon, so we decided to tackle covering the window in the dining room.

The dining room window.

There happened to be a left over set of blinds from the previous owners in the guest room upstairs. They were pretty clean, and somewhat new. And most importantly, they FIT the window. Instant $70 savings.

Thanks! to the former renters.

Hanging them was fun. We definitely messed up a few times... moved and removed them a few times. Put the brackets too far apart. Put the middle bracket in the wrong place. It was definitely a trying experience.

But we eventually got there. And they look pretty good. Only 6 more to go upstairs.
