Grown Ups Buy Furniture

Today we made the first grown up purchase of many to come... we bought new furniture for the new house.

We decided that the Rooms To Go route would be the best way to go for us. We actually have had all of our pieces picked out for a few months, but with the closing date fast approaching, it was time to make our wishlist a reality :-)

Besides the fact that the bundles at RTG make things really affordable, they are currently running two promotions: the "Buy the Room, Get the TV" promotion and their Spring Closeout Sale. We got to take advantage of both and ended up saving close to $1500 on the total.

For our sitting room, we went with the Wesley. Our package came with two chairs, a sofa, one end table and and ottoman. We swapped out the ottoman and end tables for the coffee table and end table from the Gifford Collection. Two chairs might seem strange now, but since this set will be in the low traffic living room, we figured it wouldn't be that odd in the long run. We will obviously have to grab some new pillows for this set, too-- because the ones that come with it are... just not our style.

The bedroom set that we decided to go with was the Caufield. For the past few months, we were pretty certain that we wanted the Whitmore... that is until we got to the store today and saw the price tag, in comparison with those around it. One such set was the Caufield. We decided to go with this one because of its functionality (it has several drawers and other neat little features that trumped the Whitmore).

And finally, we have the sectional we picked out for the living room. The room where the most ESPN/HGTV/Style watching will occur. The space is extremely awkward and doesnt fit a lot of furniture, so naturally this is the way to go. We kept the storage ottoman that came with this, and decided to pass on getting a TV (two TVs 15 feet away from each other seemed a little O.D.)

All in all we made out with 12 pieces of furniture and 2 TVs... more than enough to fill the house and make it feel like an instant home.

Another plus to RTG is that they will hold all of the furniture until the move-in date, then delilver it for a small fee.

First Grown Up purchase down, a million to go.
